Porul

Porul: Your smart financial diary.

Porul takes the friction out of expense tracking and budgeting, one simple step at a time.

  • Takes out fixed bills first. Rent, EMIs, school and bus fees, monthly medicines, phone recharge, OTT subscriptions and every other regular bill. Add them all once, and Porul sets them aside every month before you plan anything.
  • Knows your Daily Life Cost. Bills, EMIs and everyday spending become one number: what a day of your life costs.
  • Sorts every expense. Tag it Need, Want or Oops, and spot the unplanned spending before it adds up.
  • Gives everyday spending a limit. Set an Everyday Budget for groceries, travel and the rest of daily life.
  • Puts what’s left to work. Plan a goal or prepay a loan from what remains, so all your money has a job.

Most money apps show transactions. Porul shows habits.

Why does my money go where it goes?

Every entry in the Kakeibo diary is tagged Need, Want or Oops, so your home screen shows the habit and the nature of your spending, not just a list. Filter by item, category, nature or domain (Personal, Social, Career) to see the pattern behind it.

How much is really left to plan?

Most budgets miss a bill or lose track of savings and investments. Porul takes out your fixed bills, everyday budget, loan prepayments and goal savings, and shows one number: what’s truly left.

Am I on track for my goals?

Give a goal a target and a date. Porul works out the monthly amount, projects its growth and tracks every contribution. You log it yourself, and see the result clearly.

Built on three ideas

Private by design

Your data lives on your phone. There’s no server holding your finances, no account, no bank connection and no ads. Back up to your own Google Drive, iCloud or a folder you choose. How privacy works

Numbers, not verdicts

Porul is a calculator, not an adviser. It shows you the facts and the figures. It never tells you what to do with your money.

Frictionless

Open the app and start: no sign-up. An entry takes seconds because Porul remembers your usual items, and your budget needs no dozen categories up front. Plans guide you to allocate your surplus money.

Why is the app named “Porul”?

Porul (பொருள்) is a Tamil word that means both wealth and meaning. We built the app around that idea: money matters because of what it means in your life.

The Thirukkural, the ancient Tamil classic by Thiruvalluvar, has three parts: Aram (Virtue), Porul (Wealth) and Inbam (Love). The app is inspired by the second part, Porutpal, which is about wealth, and takes its name from it. One couplet from this part sums up the whole app:

ஆகாறு அளவிட்டி தாயினும் கேடில்லை
போகாறு அகலாக் கடை.

“Incomings may be scant; but yet, no failure there,
If in expenditure you rightly learn to spare.”

Quick answers

Do I need to connect my bank? No. You log entries yourself.

Where is my data stored? On your phone. Backups go only to a place you choose.

Does it work offline? Yes. Logging, budgeting, loans and goals all work without a connection. Porul goes online only to check a Premium subscription with the App Store or Google Play (once after the free trial, then at fixed intervals) and to back up to your own Drive or iCloud, if you turn that on.

Is this financial advice? No. Porul is a calculator and shows figures only.
