We guard your financial data by not collecting it.
Our privacy promise is built into the architecture — not just written in a document.

1. Who We Are

MyPorul ("Porul", "we", "us", "our") is a personal finance platform available at myporul.com and as the Porul Android app on Google Play Store. We provide free financial tools — Daily Burn Rate calculator, Kakeibo expense tracker, EMI calculator, and educational blog content — rooted in Thirukkural philosophy.

2. The Short Version

  • The website collects nothing. Calculators run in your browser. Nothing reaches our servers.
  • The app stores your financial data only on your device using local storage (Hive database). Nothing reaches our servers.
  • Google Drive backup is optional and user-initiated. If you choose to back up, your data goes to your personal Google Drive — not ours.
  • We have no access to your financial data at any time.
  • We run no ads, use no tracking, sell no data.

3. Website Data (myporul.com)

3.1 Financial Calculator Inputs

We collect nothing. All calculators on myporul.com run using JavaScript inside your browser. When you enter income, expenses, loan amounts, or EMI details:

  • Data is never sent to our servers
  • Data is never stored in a database
  • Data is never linked to your identity

Your inputs live temporarily in your browser's memory and optionally in localStorage (your device only). Closing or clearing your browser removes them entirely.

3.2 Website Analytics

We use privacy-respecting analytics to understand how the site is used. This collects only:

  • Page views (aggregate counts, not per user)
  • Referring websites (e.g., Google, social media)
  • Device type (mobile vs desktop — for layout improvements)
  • Country of visit (general, not city-level)

We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any behavioural tracking tools. No cookies are set for tracking purposes. No cross-site tracking occurs.

3.3 Email Contact

If you email us at connect@myporul.com, we receive your email address and message. We use this only to respond to you — never for marketing without your explicit consent.

4. Porul App Data (Android)

4.1 What the App Stores on Your Device

The Porul app stores the following data locally on your device using Hive, an offline-first database. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to back it up to your own Google Drive.

We have zero access to any of this data. It is stored in your device's private app storage directory, inaccessible to other apps and not transmitted anywhere.

4.2 Google Drive Backup (Optional)

The app offers an optional, manually triggered backup feature using Google Drive. This feature:

  • Is entirely opt-in — the app works fully without it
  • Requires you to sign in with your own Google account
  • Uploads your Hive data files to your personal Google Drive (appDataFolder — private, not visible in your regular Drive)
  • We never see, access, or store your backup data
  • Google's own privacy policy governs data stored in your Drive

What Google Sign-In accesses: When you use Google Drive backup, we request:

  • Your Google account email address (to identify your Drive)
  • Google Drive file access (limited to Porul's private app folder only)

We do not access your Gmail, contacts, calendar, or any other Google data.

To revoke Drive access: Go to myaccount.google.com → Security → Third-party apps → Remove Porul.

4.3 App Permissions

The app works completely offline. Internet is only accessed when you explicitly trigger a Drive backup or restore.

4.4 No Analytics in the App

The Porul app contains no analytics SDK, no crash reporting SDK, no advertising SDK. We collect zero telemetry from the app. We do not know:

  • How many users installed the app
  • How often it is opened
  • Which features are used
  • Whether it crashes

This is a deliberate architectural choice. Your financial behaviour is private.

5. Cookies (Website Only)

myporul.com uses minimal cookies:

  • Functional only: Theme preference (light/dark), last calculator state — stored in localStorage, not transmitted
  • No advertising cookies
  • No third-party tracking cookies

The app does not use cookies. The app uses Hive local database only.

6. Third-Party Services

Website

  • Hosting (Firebase/Vercel): Serves website files. Processes your IP for connection routing only.
  • Fonts (Google Fonts or self-hosted): May contact Google's servers for font files.
  • Analytics (Plausible or equivalent): Privacy-first, no personal data, GDPR compliant.

App

  • Google Sign-In + Google Drive API: Only if you use Drive backup. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
  • No other third-party SDKs are embedded in the app.

7. How We Use Information

The minimal data we receive is used only to:

  • Serve the website and ensure it loads correctly
  • Understand which pages are useful (aggregate analytics)
  • Respond to direct enquiries via email
  • Fix bugs and improve calculator accuracy

We do not use any data for advertising, profiling, or sale to third parties — ever.

8. Your Rights

Website

  • Access: Nothing to access — we don't have your data
  • Delete: Clear your browser localStorage to remove calculator history
  • Opt-out of analytics: Use a browser ad-blocker (uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger)

App

  • Access your data: Open the app — all your data is visible within it
  • Delete all data: Uninstall the app. Uninstalling permanently removes all Hive data from your device.
  • Delete Drive backup: Go to your Google Drive → Storage → Backups → Remove Porul backup
  • Export your data: Use the Export feature in Settings (if available) to save data as JSON/CSV
  • Revoke Google access: myaccount.google.com → Security → Third-party apps → Remove Porul

9. Data Security

  • myporul.com is served over HTTPS — all web traffic is encrypted
  • App data is stored in your device's private app storage — inaccessible to other apps
  • Drive backups are stored in your private Google Drive appDataFolder — not visible to other apps or people
  • Since we store no financial data on our servers, there is no financial data to breach on our end

Protect your device with a passcode or biometric lock. Your device's security is the primary protection for your Porul data.

10. Data Retention

Website

We retain no financial data. Anonymous analytics data (page view counts) may be retained for up to 12 months for trend analysis.

App

  • Your data lives on your device until you uninstall
  • Drive backups persist until you delete them from your Google Drive
  • We retain nothing on our servers at any time

11. Children's Privacy

Porul (website and app) is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. The app is rated for users aged 3+ on Google Play (no objectionable content) but is designed for adults managing personal finances.

If you believe a child has submitted information via email, contact connect@myporul.com and we will delete it promptly.

12. Changes to This Policy

We will update this Privacy Policy if we add new features that change how data is handled (e.g., optional accounts, cloud sync, newsletter). Changes will be posted at myporul.com/privacy-policy with an updated "Last Updated" date.

Material changes (e.g., if we ever add a backend) will be communicated via an in-app notification before the change takes effect.
